Breakaway Kindle Ú Hardcover

Breakaway This book is far from the best book I ve ever read Lily is a self absorbed, slightly stuck up soccer star who thinks a little too much of her value to the team The book is a lesson in teamwork, etc, but Lily s just a little too selfish to be very loveable Not that she s a little prig or anything, but you just don t find yourself connecting to her problems at all, because you just know she ll learn her lesson in the end It s that kind of book. This is, however, a good book for people who love This book is far from the best book I ve ever read Lily is a self absorbed, slightly stuck up soccer star who thinks a little too much of her value to the team The book is a lesson in teamwork, etc, but Lily s just a little too selfish to be very loveable Not that she s a little prig or anything, but you just don t find yourself connecting to her problems at all, because you just know she ll learn her lesson in the end It s that kind of book. This is, however, a good book for people who love soccer It s not bad, it s just not very good Good way to talk about teamwork and responsibility BORING I DID NOT LIKE THIS BOOK I think that this is a good book, particularly if you like soccer or stories about soccer I liked it, but I didn t have an extreme reaction. Lily lives for soccer, and her involved but busy family knows it Because she cares so deeply about the sport, she has some problems with impulse control on the field When she tries to impress a scout at the expense of the team and other players, they turn against her and she is benched for two games At the same time, her grandfather moves into her room and she is blamed for damaging a sign when she didn t, although she was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time Since her other frien Lily lives for soccer, and her involved but busy family knows it Because she cares so deeply about friends, especially Vee, aren t talking to her, she gets to know Tabitha, whom she had always thought was spoiled and snotty She starts to realize that Tabitha s dad is overbearing, and that everyone has problems of one sort or another Lily must come to terms with how to handle her own problems in a way that doesn t cause her to give up on her passion of playing soccer.Strengths This was a good sports book for slightly younger girls, and this issues with friends and family complemented the sports action.Weaknesses Tabitha s family has a driver and a housekeeper I suppose there are families like that, but it s so outside my realm of experience that I couldn t believe it Also, looking at the covers of these three, I like the action shots better Breakaway is a great book It contains a lot of interesting characters Like the main, Lilly James Lilly James is a great soccer player, when ever she is on the field nothing can distract her She is the captain of her team Lilly likes to run and called Soccer Sisters that starts with 1, but doesn t seem to include this title, but I would recommend them very highly for teachers in grades 4 6 The soccer sisters series title is likely to scare boys away as readers, but there s not much in Breakaway that boys would feel was too girly for them, unless they just couldn t handle having a female author and lead characters The themes are pretty universal, and the way the characters relate should resonate about as well with boys as with girls In short, a good, light read about sports and other realistic issues, told well and with some good and not overly heavy ethics thrown in Lily was born to play soccer, or at least that s how she felt the first time she kicked a soccer ball She s good at it too, the best on her team But when she will resonate with anyone who s ever heard the phrase there is no I in the word team I recommend it for girls aged 9 to 12 LJ knows her place in the world is on the soccer field When she s out there scoring goals, everything s right But being a big shot on the field has started going to her head She s been letting her temper get the best of her both on the field and off, alienating everyone around her Everyone except Tabitha, the popular girl who caresabout credit cards than yellow c I d actually give this one a 3 1 2 Entertaining story about soccer for girls main character is a terrific
